The Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Trail runs through the City of Falls Church on the bed of a railroad that carried passengers until 1951. Its first stretch opened here in 1974, and today the paved trail runs about 45 miles from Arlington to Purcellville. The Four Mile Run Trail starts in the city at Van Buren Street and runs toward the Mount Vernon Trail near Reagan National Airport.

About a third of the parks below are inside the city, and most of those share the phone line of the city's Community Center on Little Falls Street. Cherry Hill Park covers 7 acres around the historic farmhouse. Two of the 1791 stones that marked the original District of Columbia stand in small parks on the Arlington line. Most of the rest are Fairfax County parks in the surrounding neighborhoods.
