West Broad Street is old road. It follows the Middle Turnpike, the colonial route from Alexandria to Leesburg that is now Route 7, and where it met the road to the Little Falls of the Potomac a wooden church went up in the 1730s. The vestry book first called it the Falls Church in 1757, and the brick building that replaced it in 1769 still stands on East Fairfax Street.
